Happy 11th birthday Oppie!

HTAF Golden Opportunity, affectionately known as Oppie, is a lively alpaca with a big personality who loves to talk and is an excellent walker on the halter. His primary color is fawn, and with a bit of Chilean heritage in his bloodline, he also has ancestors who display striking two-color patterns. A major influence in Oppie’s lineage is the renowned Peruvian Hemingway G171, whose genetics significantly contribute to Oppie’s exceptional fleece quality. This was proven in competition, where Oppie earned the title of Reserve Champion and won 1st place in the Walking Fleece category. Additionally, he has placed 4th in two fleece competitions and 6th in another, further showcasing his remarkable fiber and strong genetic background.

🎉 Happy 1st Birthday, Esther! 🎉

Today we’re celebrating Rainbow Magic’s Esther Marie!

Esther is a sweet but sassy girl who was a bottle baby, making her extra special from the very beginning. Her pedigree is full of impressive genetics, including Chilean Heritage bloodlines and a rich color diversity featuring rose gray and silver gray variations. She also carries Appaloosa ancestry, adding even more uniqueness to her lineage.

Some notable ancestors in Esther’s pedigree include Hobby Horse Farm Marzipan, SA Peruvian Black Epic, 4Peruvian Black Magic 6025, Snowmass Legend Maker, and Peruvian Hemingway G171. With genetics like these, it’s no surprise that Esther has beautiful fiber that we always look forward to seeing each year.

Whether she’s showing off her sass or reminding us just how sweet she can be, Esther is a special part of our herd, and we’re thankful for her every day.

I love this precious moment I captured last night while closing up the barn. The white alpaca in the picture is a very pregnant Claire and baby Ruth taking a nap with her head next to Clair’s baby bump. Claire is due any day now! We can’t wait to meet her new baby!! 🥰

Throwback to when Esther Marie was just a tiny bottle baby alpaca living in our house after her mom rejected her. Bottle baby alpacas require around-the-clock care in the beginning, and Esther quickly became part of the family.

One of Esther’s favorite things to do was gently nibble on the cats with her soft alpaca lips. Alpacas often use their lips to explore and interact with the world around them, and Esther treated the cats like they were her best friends. Even funnier, the cats absolutely loved it. They would lay there soaking up what was probably the strangest “petting session” ever.

Moments like these remind us just how intelligent, social, and affectionate alpacas can be when raised closely with people and other animals. Esther Marie may be all grown up now, but she will always be our little house alpaca at heart. ❤️🦙🐈
