Recently I was reflecting on a book that made a powerful impact on my life: The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz.
One of the biggest lessons it taught me was to be impeccable with my word not just with others, but with myself. When I say I’m going to do something, I try my best to follow through. That simple shift helped me begin building trust with myself.
Another agreement that changed the way I move through life is don’t take anything personally. People speak and act from their own experiences and beliefs. Understanding that helped me protect my peace and focus more on my own growth.
The four agreements are simple, but applying them can be truly freeing:
1. Be impeccable with your word
2. Don’t take anything personally
3. Don’t make assumptions
4. Always do your best
For me, practicing these principles has been part of my journey of self-discovery, self-acceptance, and personal growth. It’s an everyday process, but one that has helped me show up for myself in ways I didn’t before.
If you’ve ever read this book, I’d love to hear which agreement impacted you the most.
