I know this is just for East Lyme( for now) but if one town can do it…. it will grow!

Can we PLEASE get back to pen and paper in our schools?!

Both of my children entered school at 4 years old knowing how to read and write, with BEAUTIFUL penmanship. As a former teacher, I made sure they knew how to properly hold a pencil, form their letters, and write neatly.

Fast-forward to middle school, and at 12 years old, their handwriting is practically ILLEGIBLE! I’m not exaggerating when I say they wrote better in KINDERGARTEN!

It’s honestly disturbing.

I understand technology is part of our world, and I’m not against it. But we’ve gone WAY too far! These kids spend practically their entire school day staring at screens and typing on tablets. God forbid they actually pick up a pencil and WRITE something!

As parents, we’re seeing the consequences right in front of us.

Technology should be a TOOL in education, not a replacement for fundamental skills!

Am I the only parent noticing this?! Because it’s absolutely heartbreaking to see skills our children once mastered disappearing.

Re-evaluate educational technology use in East Lyme schools
