So here's something a lot of parents don't realize - all that adorable (and exhausting 😅) drooling during teething actually pulls quite a bit of fluid out through the day. And since gum pain can make feeds a little uncomfortable, it's easy for fluid intake to quietly dip without you even noticing.
The good news is that a few simple swaps make it really easy to keep fluids up - no stress, no battle. 😊
1️⃣ Shorter, more frequent feeds
When gums are sore, a full nursing session or bottle can feel like a lot. Try shorter feeds more often instead — less pressure on the gums, just as much fluid in, and so much easier for everyone.
2️⃣ Serve purées cold instead of warm
Whatever your baby already loves — mango, pear, apple — try it chilled straight from the fridge. The cold soothes the gums while they eat, which makes the whole experience more comfortable and keeps those fluids coming in too.
3️⃣ Frozen Teetherpop filled with watermelon juice or breastmilk 🍉
Hydrate and soothe at the same time! Fill Teetherpop with breastmilk or coconut water, pop it in the freezer, and hand it over. Your baby gets cool gum soothing relief AND hydration with electrolytes at the same time — plus baby can hold it herself the whole time. Two birds, one pop. It really doesn't get easier than this. 💛
4️⃣ Small sips of water between feeds
If your baby has started solids, small sips of water through the day add up more than you'd think. A soft spout cup keeps it easy on sore gums — nothing that needs too much effort to use right now.
5️⃣ Naturally hydrating snacks
On the days when solids are going well, lean into the hydrating ones - watermelon, chilled cucumber, or fruit purée. High water content, naturally sweet, and so much more appealing when served cold during the teething phase.
Save this for the next teething day - and pass it along to anyone who might need it right now! 👆
