This image invites us into one of the deepest prayers a soul can make—not a prayer for success, comfort, or even answers, but a prayer for surrender.

When we kneel before Our Lord and say, “Empty me of me and fill me with You,” we are asking Him to gently remove everything that keeps us from loving Him completely. Our pride, our fears, our need to control, our wounded attachments, our constant focus on ourselves—all are placed into His hands.

The woman in the photo is hidden beneath her veil, almost disappearing from view. This is a beautiful symbol of the spiritual life. The closer we draw to Christ, the less concerned we become with being seen, praised, or understood. We desire only that He be seen in us.

Yet this prayer is not easy. To be emptied often means allowing God to work through trials, disappointments, waiting, and hidden sacrifices. He makes room for His grace by slowly removing what does not belong. Like a chalice that must first be emptied before it can be filled, our hearts must become available to Him.

As you gaze upon this image, imagine yourself kneeling before the tabernacle and praying:

Lord Jesus, strip away everything in me that is not of You.
Remove my pride and replace it with humility.
Remove my fear and replace it with trust.
Remove my impatience and replace it with peace.
Remove my self-will and replace it with Your holy will.
Let my thoughts become Your thoughts, my words become Your words, and my heart become a dwelling place for Your Presence.
Empty me of me, Lord, so that there is more room for You.

“He must increase, but I must decrease.” (John 3:30)

May this become the quiet prayer of our hearts every time we enter a church, kneel before the Blessed Sacrament, or receive Our Lord in Holy Communion. Amen. 🙏🏻✝️
