This week was the best type of beautiful chaos. We put all four of our kiddos back into school buildings. We went from four different schools to three and for the first time in 13 years we are no longer in elementary school.

We ran for last minute supplies, lunch box goodies and had a goal to learn one new friend's name. We got teachers we think we will love and some will show respect even if we don't connect.

We ran kiddos here there and everywhere.

Andy worked late, and I was able to get into the shop early for the first time consistently in a while.

I talked to so many parents this week who had begun homeschooling or put their kiddos on buses or in carlines. Some teared up, some jumped up and down, and some just weren't sure what to do next.

This one precious life we lead can be lonely sometimes. It can feel like a grind that is tied to a clock on the wall counting away moment until your next obligation or till bedtime.

There is a saying that it takes a village, but the villages of this decade look so different than the villages of decades ago. However, if you really think to the roots of how villages were created it wasn't "people were just always there". People sailed oceans, climbed over mountains, took wagons west and built whole lives.

DON'T LOOK FOR A VILLAGE YOU AREN'T WILLING TO HELP CREATE.

CREATE the village you need in this moment. Say the awkward hi to a mom stranger in carline, or at the pediatricians office. You both have kids so BOOM, one thing in common. Give your kiddo an index card with your number and name to hand to that new friend in class. You're raising that beautiful baby and he or she will be drawn to people whose parents you might really like too.

We can be comfortable being alone, charging our batteries on a cup of coffee, taking in some fresh air walking the dog, but our souls were not made to be lonely. Alone and lonely are not the same.

If you need someone when the lonely is too much, I'll be like the crazy sister you probably don't want advice from, or the Aunt your kiddos didn't know they needed. I always want you to know that this building, for as long as I run it, will be a place you can feel like your home.
