Oh my goodness I don't even know where to start. Everything changed and threw us for yet another loop. This past Friday we had Rhett's pathology results and to get the chemo plan. That changed. I haven't been able to find the words to update ...

Now that the CaringBridge page has been updated I can give you a little more information on what my little 4yr old man Rhett is facing. He has been diagnosed with what is called a Childhood Malignant Rhabdoid Tumor (MRT) that has spread to his lungs. It is a very rare tumor, so rare that only 20-25 of them are diagnosed in the United States each year. He is currently at Mayo clinic. This week he has undergone PET scan and a brain MRI to make sure it has not spread anywhere else in his body. Thankfully those tests came back clear!!! Yesterday they did surgery to remove the large main tumor that was attached to his left kidney, in doing this they had to remove the entire kidney and part of his colon (large intestines).

He was able to be home over the weekend and spend time with family and friends before all of this thankfully. He will be hospitalized while he heals from his surgery and possibly while he receives further treatment. It is unclear what that will all entail at this point but most likely chemo and radiation to get what they couldn't.

No child should ever have to go through cancer, let alone one so rare.
