A sports coat and a blazer might look similar, but there’s a difference.
A sports coat traditionally has more texture, pattern, or visual interest and is designed to be worn as a standalone jacket. Think tweed, herringbone, checks, or a more casual fabric. A blazer is typically cleaner and more structured, often in a solid color, with the classic navy blazer being the most recognizable example.
And then there’s the suit jacket, which is designed to be worn with its matching trousers.
Of course, menswear has never been great at following its own rules, and today those lines can get pretty blurry. The important thing is understanding what you have in your closet and, more importantly, knowing how to wear it.
That’s where personal style comes in.
