Hen Picked Antiques & Stained Glass

Hen Picked Antiques & Stained Glass Located in a historic 1853 church, Hen Picked Antiques features an eclectic mix of antiques, collectibles, gifts & gently used home & garden decor.

We also repair stained glass and carry a full line of stained glass supplies. Customer parking lot in back. We are Hen Picked Antiques, a husband-and-wife team who love to hunt for antique and vintage items to sell in our shop. We were bitten hard by the antique bug in 1993 after we purchased an old farmstead in Erin and began restoration on the farmhouse, which was built around 1906. The purchase

led to an interest in antique and historical items which soon grew into a passion. After dabbling in selling our wares at an outdoor flea market for several years, we decided to move the sale to the farmstead in 2001. We had been brainstorming for several years on how to make the barn sales a year around event when some properties became available in Hartford. We toured a couple properties but decided they were a bit too ambitious of a project for us. Bob kept thinking about the church and said "too bad you didn't like it." After reminding him that I hadn't seen it, we set up a meeting with the realtor and I immediately fell in love with
it's beautiful architecture and stained glass windows. On March 31, 2016, we became the proud new owners of the former First Congregational Church building on the corner of Branch and Church Streets. Built in 1853, it is one of the oldest churches in Washington County and we are only the second owners in 164 years! We feature an eclectic mix of antique, vintage and gently used newer items for your home, as well as items for your garden. We also offer stained glass classes as well as stained glass supplies and repairs.

Our June newsletter is out so be sure to check your inbox to see the latest news from us-sales, events and part 3 of my story on Chicago Art Glass!
For those of you who prefer to have the highlights, here's a few upcoming important events and announcements:
*June 20th PERENNIAL PLANT SALE! We're still planning our perennial plant sale but we are delayed until June 20th. If you've driven by lately, you may have noticed we've been having some painting done. With the lift and paint crew on site, I didn't want to have anything outside for them to have to maneuver around. Painting should be wrapping in the next 1-3 days so after that, I can focus on fun things, like plants and gardening!
**June 13th and June 27th UPCOMING SHOP CLOSURES! We will be closed on Saturday, June 13th in order to attend a glass conference and we will be closed on Saturday, June 27th to celebrate Bob's birthday and our anniversary. If you are in need of stained glass or supplies and can't wait until the shop is open, give us a call! I am here working a lot, even when the shop is not open!
***June 17th 9-11:30am Morning stained glass summer session starts. THERE ARE STILL SPOTS AVAILABLE! If you'd like to join us or just get more information, contact us today!
****July 8th 10am-8pm Maxwell Street Days. Yes, we will be open with great deals on antiques and stained glass. We're hoping to have some stained glass demonstrations throughout the day so if you've even been interested in taking a class with us, stop in and see what it's all about!
*****July 19th 12-4pm Garden Stake Workshop This class has been very popular this summer so if you haven't been able to get into our previous workshops, now is your chance! Class size is limited to 12 participants and THERE ARE ONLY 6 SPOTS LEFT! Please make sure to contact us before sending in payment and registration so that we can check to make sure we still have room.

Wow! What an incredible piece!!!

I am tired (and look it!) but I am so grateful. I'm finishing up the final touches on a HEAD TO TOE stained GLASS outfit! In just a few days, I'll head to New York to watch my passion for glass fashion bloom on stage among other amazing artists. This head piece is just a HINT of what is to come for Laura Donefer's Glass Fashion Show at the during the GAS and SGAA conference. I cannot believe this is actually here and happening - it's been two years in the making!

I'm not counting my chickens yet, I have a long journey ahead.. but I am already so grateful to so many people who have helped along the way. Huge thanks to Laura Donefer for her faith and encouragement and to for the beautiful glass to make this possible. I've also had assistance with sewing from and much foiling/grinding assistance from my kids and besties.

There are hundreds and hundreds of pieces of glass. I can't wait to show you the whole thing!!

Are you coming to ?? I can't wait to meet so many new people and see some of my best friends again.

We hosted such a fun family yesterday for a Private Birthday Party/Stained Glass Workshop! This was scheduled way back in March but had to be postponed because of the blizzard of 2026! You might notice the birthday girl's picture on the t-shirts but we won't tell you how old she is because us girls have to stick together 😉! Tom, the tomcat-greeter extraordinnaire, made a new friend too so it was a great day! Thank you to the Fronberry family for having us host your birthday celebration.

Did you know we have a monthly newsletter? It is mostly geared toward glass artists but even if that does not apply to you, it is still the best source to find out about any workshops that we have and events going on in Downtown Hartford WI . For glass artists, it is a great source of information on our sales, classes and you'll even find some interesting glass facts in our "Shards of Knowledge" column.
In our April newsletter, read all about Chicago Art Glass and how we discovered a stockpile of new old stock (part 1). In our May newsletter, our "Shards of Knowlege" column continues with part 2 of the history of Chicago Art Glass in Wisconsin. The final part of the story will be in the June newsletter. We think it's a fascinating story even if you're not a glass nerd, like us!

Weekly wrap up:
First, I want to thank all of you who came out for the Wine Walk last Saturday. It was a crazy busy day and so much fun! Thanks to the Hartford Rotary Club and Hartford BID for all your hard work putting on this event!

I am way behind on posting pictures. Actually I could have sworn I posted them but must have gotten interrupted and never finished 🤦‍♀️!

We had a private Fused Glass Workshop last Friday and 7 ladies are going to have some pretty plant stakes to adorn their container gardens this spring!

Numerous students have completed their projects. Nancy and Ruth from Wednesday's day class finished their projects. This is Ruth's first stained glass class and that hummingbird is beautiful! Nancy made this gorgeous abstract window and she's got a knack for picking out colors. I just love how it turned out! Rachel completed her second mini project. That black and white is strikingly beautiful! Kristen finished her rose window and it's so pretty. Great job! And then there's our friend, Earl, from Bob's retired tradesmen group. Earl was a fantastic plumber and it turns out Earl is a darn good stained glass artist too. His first project, the International Harvest logo, is spot on!
Fantastic job on your projects everyone!!!

🤠Yee haw!!! Have you made plans for this weekend? I don't know how this snuck up on me but the Hartford Wine Walk is this Saturday! It's a hoe down theme this year and it's going to be a little bit chilly so it's a perfect time to wear your flannel, jeans and cowboy hat before the heat of summer kicks in! Or, if you're a Kentucky Derby fan, go ahead and wear derby attire. Either way, stroll through Downtown Hartford WI and shop while sampling wines and snacks at 20 businesses. We'll have stained glass demonstrations throughout the afternoon so if you've ever been interested in taking a class with us, stop in and see what our students have been working on!
