This was such a rewarding restoration. I found this lovely lavender lady (from 1963) at the Hart County Habitat for Humanity Thrift Store for $10, purchased the pattern cams in the orange box from eBay and printed and comb bound a user manual. I have been searching for a vintage lavender Necchi or Kenmore and was excited to discover what was underneath the ugly painted lid (although it did have a sweet message written on it). The machine was dirty but not frozen and in beautiful cosmetic condition. Didn’t take long to have her sewing perfectly. The lid of the case had been painted and the base had lots of black fabric coming off. I used tacky glue on the base and re-painted it black. I was thinking all I could do is repaint the top until I saw a picture online of what it originally looked like and what was underneath that paint! I just had to try and get it back. A test spot with gel paint remover showed promise. After several hours of scrubbing with a tooth brush and plastic scraper it’s good as new. I was amazed that it worked and so happy to add her to the stable. I’ve Googled the names that were written on the case because it would be nice to let a family member know the machine has been restored, is used and loved but I had no luck.
