So, why did I make the Dandy Bear? They say necessity is the mother of invention. Well, I wanted my facial hair to do something it simply did not do on its own….lay straight. I thought there just had to be a product or device that existed to help solve this grave di
lemma. But you know, it didn’t. So, I decided to solve the problem myself. Inspired by the romance and simple elegance of the late 19th century, I created a heat tempered, hand carved, beard comb specifically designed to groom men’s facial hair. As a designer, every detail of the Dandy Bear was important to me and had to be, well thought out, even down to the packaging, which I created in a traditional 19th. Century manner. My Childhood Heroes rocked super cool beards. But my beard would always reach a certain length and begin to look …. Nappy. Scruffy…. disheveled….like a wild man. I like to dress up on occasions, put on my Sunday best and pretend to be a Dapper Dan. And I think the Dandy Bear is for the modern romantic. Facial hair for men is a choice of expression. Trends come and go, but ones personal appearance is clearly a decision. And if I am to rock a beard, moustache, goatee, fu Manchu or any type of facial hair design….then I’d like it to be as intentional as possible. I feel a lot of men would agree with me on this. Personal grooming is a ritual that makes a man feel like a man.
