Back to work. This top has been sitting several weeks and I finally have a day to work on it. Today’s goal is to add some highlights in a lighter gold to give the top some dimension. Then I will halt this project and maybe make a video of all I’ve learned.

Teaching myself how to Airbrush with Silicone WIP! 4 coats of the darker gold pigment & it’s starting to look pretty good. My Airbrush trigger finger is screaming at me. I have no idea if I’m doing any of this correctly but I’ve finally figured out the right Psyco Paint to Novocs to PearlEx Pigment ratio.

Fins Frills Mermaid Paint Recipe:
1 part A Psycho Paint
1 part B Psycho Paint
3-4 parts Novocs
& a ton of pigment but not so much that it doesn’t dissolve completely
* I do have to say that I pretty much “stole” this from SmoothOns website so it’s not exactly proprietary 😆 (Yeah they had instructions on the website that I initially completely ignored)

I’m finding that I’m spending equal time airbrushing and cleaning the airbrush. Then even after I think it’s clean. It’s not and I find a little chunk of silicone somewhere. On average I’m taking the airbrush apart and putting it back together minimum 3-4 times per coat of paint 😝 and I have yet to have it start spraying normally the first time I load it with paint. Every time (even when I test it 2 seconds prior with straight Novocs or water) it clogs when I put the Silicone Paint in it. I dump it and clean the needle & nozzle, put it back together and use the same paint mixture finally it will work. 🤷‍♀️

I am attempting to teach myself how to airbrush silicone. Follow to learn with me! Attempt #1 was a failure. No actual silicone was sprayed. But I am organized and ready for Attempt #2.…I think I’ll need to record it. 😆 What questions do you guys have about silicone airbrushing so that I might try to help others while learning myself?

Several lessons so far:
#1 Maybe learn how to clean your airbrush prior to clogging it with silicone. I was amazed that it has so many parts and nothing in the instructions in the airbrush box show how to take it apart or put it back together. YouTube is my friend but until I actually did it, I didn’t really understand.

#2 I have no idea how to gauge the consistency of liquid or how “thin” it is. I now know the silicone needs to be the consistency of Milk and probably more like Skim Milk for it to fit through my airbrush (I may need a “bigger” airbrush. I don’t know if “bigger” is the right term but something that has a larger spray hole and a stronger air compressor that can do more PSI. I thought I’d try learning with a little battery operated airbrush but it may not be the right one for silicone. 🤪

#3 I probably need to open the window, keep a fan going and/or move everything outside. There wasn’t a smell but I did start to feel kinda weird & headachy (I know there are fumes from the thinner but I was using so very little of it…). But I could also have been feeling weird because I was getting frustrated it wasn’t working and I didn’t know how to fix it right away.

Four More Out the door!

As a mermaid who is always traveling in/out of water, I was tired of my necklace boxes becoming waterlogged and soggy after a swim. I found these little cases work really well to protect and travel with your necklaces. And wanted to share them with my custoMers!!
