A little more about the new piece I brought to my booth - who doesn’t love a piece with some history!?

This mail sorter once stood in the Crete, Illinois Post Office in the early 1900s, where it helped postal clerks organize letters, newspapers, and parcels for delivery throughout the community.

Sturdy, practical, and well-used, pieces like this were the backbone of America’s postal system—connecting families, businesses, and friends across the country. Today, it survives as a reminder of small-town postal history and the vital role the mail played in daily life more than a century ago!

I had the pleasure of picking this piece up from a lovely woman whose grandfather was a postal worker in Crete in the early 1900’s. He used this mail sorter daily! Her family has held onto this piece for over 60+ years after it was removed from the post office.
