Love hearing news like this. Way to go Yahya and Justina! 🙏
The ODNR Division of Parks & Watercraft Natural Resources Officers proudly honored two heroes on Monday whose quick actions saved a child’s life at Alum Creek State Park last summer.
On August 17, 2025, 12‑year‑old Yahya Raki spotted a young child floating face‑down in the water and immediately pulled them to shore. Justina Benjamin stepped in without hesitation, performing CPR until the child regained consciousness.
Their bravery and calm under pressure were recognized last night with an ODNR Lifesaving Award at Alum Creek. We extend our deepest gratitude to both Yahya and Justina—their actions reflect true courage and community spirit.
A reminder for everyone enjoying Ohio’s natural beaches and lakes: A safe day starts with staying aware and looking out for your loved ones and friends. Keep a close watch on children while they enjoy the beach.
Heroes like Yahya and Justina inspire us all to stay alert, stay safe, and look out for one another on the water.
