Sewing with Batiks
Batiks have a tighter weave compared to other quilting cottons, so sewing with them requires a few adjustments:
Use a sharp needle (such as a Microtex or universal needle) to prevent skipped stitches.
Opt for a slightly smaller stitch length to accommodate the denser weave.
Press carefully—batiks are more prone to scorching, so use a lower heat setting or a pressing cloth to protect the fabric.
Keep Your Batiks Looking Their Best
To keep batik quilts and projects looking their best:
Wash in cold water with a mild detergent to maintain color integrity.
Avoid fabric softeners, as they can leave a residue that dulls the fabric’s surface.
Air dry or tumble dry on low to help preserve the richness of the dyes.
Store finished projects away from direct sunlight to prevent fading over time.
