ABOUT THE DAY OF BATTLE DESIGN: Hawaii's history is full of famous battles. The Day of Battle design features ancient Hawaiian battle weapons including spears and shark tooth clubs. It also integrates rifles and cannons. The introduction of these weapons would change the battle landscape of ancient Hawaii, leading ultimately to the islands becoming united under one chiefdom.

This painting is called ‘Kekuaokalani and Manono Battle at Kuamoʻo Dec. 1819’ by Brook Kapukuniahi Parker, a Native Hawaiian artist. Pictured in the forefront is a royal descendant, Manono, standing beside her husband Kekuaokalani. In the background, a kahuna, or priest, holds Kūkaʻilimoku, the Hawaiian war god, first entrusted to Kamehameha I, who passed it on to Kekuaokalani. || I love this painting because it helps bring life to imagining our historical past. It's so amazing to get to experience how this artist imagines this battle. MAHALO for sharing! ||

D A Y O F B A T T L E Emblem PREVIEW || This Herb Kane painting is one of the inspirations for my D A Y O F B A T T L E gi. To me, this painting depicts trade between Hawaiians and foreigners. Hawaiian chiefs traded natural resources for canons and rifles which were used to conquer and unite the islands under one ruler. || STAY TUNED for a limited release of shirts and hats featuring the Day of Battle emblem!
