I have some sad news.
The storage unit Rethinkgeek's merchandise was in was broken into over the weekend. Almost everything was stolen and what was left was ruined. The only surviving item was a box of signs a very dear family friend made for us.
I have a lot of regrets and complicated emotions. Like, "I should have reopened the booth, I should have chosen a better location, I should have taken more risks like going to cons."
Right now I'm just focusing on filling out insurance forms and hoping everything will be covered. It's a lot of paperwork because there was literally hundreds of items from dozens of different companies. They all have receipts, thankfully. The only item I'm worried about not getting covered is my Square Reader. It was brand new in the box with the paper receipt with it. I have a bank statement so maybe that will be ok?
I'm also not sure about items I made or bought from artists. My sister Haven and I spent a long time making a beautiful paper garland from scratch. The many of the leaves were hand painted, cut, and hand rolled before being attached to the garland.
Seeing our hard work ruined, covered in p*e and crushed was upsetting. Luckily I had a somewhat busy social calander to destract me and the best husband in the world who took the day off work when I needed him.
I'm not sure what I'm going to do with ReThinkGeek right now. Let's see if we recover our loses before I make any decisions.
