𝙎𝙚𝙬 & 𝙏𝙚𝙡𝙡 𝙏𝙝𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙙𝙖𝙮
Hey friends—it's been a minute! Life's been full (and growing a baby is no small task 😅), but I’m back with a quick thrift flip I just had to share.

I found this dress at the thrift store and loved the look, but the shoulder seams were hanging way too low—think "falling off my arm" low. So, I adjusted the shoulder seams to bring them up to where they should sit. It’s a subtle fix that makes a huge difference in fit and comfort!

(If you’re curious—moving up a shoulder seam usually means opening the seam at the shoulder, removing excess fabric, and reattaching it so it sits properly on your natural shoulder line. ✂️)

This week, it’s all about leather and layers!
I’ve got my hands full with these biker vests, getting decked out in patches. From biker vibes to bold statements, every stitch matters when you're sewing through leather (and yes, my machine and I had a moment or two). One complete, more to do.

𝑺𝒆𝒘 & 𝑻𝒆𝒍𝒍 𝑻𝒉𝒖𝒓𝒔𝒅𝒂𝒚 ✂️

Real talk this week—because life isn’t always neatly stitched together. I missed last week’s post, and honestly, I almost skipped today too.

The past couple weeks have been full of big emotions: the joyful surprise of finding out I’m pregnant, and the deep sadness of losing a loved one. Both have reminded me just how much we carry behind the seams of everyday life.

So today’s Sew & Tell isn’t about a finished project—it’s about giving ourselves grace. Sometimes the most creative thing we can do is simply keep going, one day at a time.

To anyone else juggling life’s highs and lows—you’re not alone, and it’s okay to press pause.

Sometimes, all a garment needs is a little tweaking to go from ‘meh’ to YES! This dress was too big and a bit frumpy, but with some serger magic, I took it in and removed the sleeves for a more flattering fit! ✨ Now it’s a favorite! Never underestimate the power of alterations.

Ever struggled to sew over thick seams, only for your presser foot to tilt and stitches to go wonky? That’s where the 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐩 𝐣𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐫 comes in!

This little tool helps your presser foot stay level as you sew over bulky seams, making your stitches smoother and preventing skipped stitches. It’s a game-changer for hemming jeans, sewing over thick layers, or working with heavy fabrics!

✨𝑺𝒆𝒘 & 𝑻𝒆𝒍𝒍 𝑻𝒉𝒖𝒓𝒔𝒅𝒂𝒚: 𝑨 𝑺𝒖𝒓𝒑𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑺𝒆𝒘𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑻𝒐𝒐𝒍!✨

Did you know a 𝒓𝒖𝒃𝒃𝒆𝒓 𝒎𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒕 can be an invaluable tool when hemming jeans? Thick seams can be tricky to sew over, but a few taps with a mallet help flatten them, making the sewing process much smoother.

Bonus? It’s also a great stress reliever! Just look at the joy on my apprentice’s face. (Swipe to see the action shot!)

✨ 𝙎𝙚𝙬 & 𝙏𝙚𝙡𝙡 𝙏𝙝𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙙𝙖𝙮 (𝙖 𝙙𝙖𝙮 𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙚): 𝙎𝙩𝙚𝙥𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙊𝙪𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙈𝙮 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙩 𝙕𝙤𝙣𝙚 ✨

Formal dress alterations aren’t something I typically take on because, to be honest, they make me a little nervous! But when this dress came my way, I decided to challenge myself and gain some experience.

This gown needed:
✔️ The side seams taken in
✔️ Beading removed and reattached at one side seam
✔️ Custom-made straps added
✔️ A full hem on 𝙛𝙤𝙪𝙧 layers of fabric!

It was definitely a learning experience, but I’m so glad I did it! While I’m still not 100% confident in every aspect of formal alterations, this project helped me grow my skills—and that’s what it’s all about.

Hey everyone! It’s been a while since I last posted, but I’m still here—sewing away and working on some fun projects! To get back into sharing, I’m starting 𝑺𝒆𝒘 & 𝑻𝒆𝒍𝒍 𝑻𝒉𝒖𝒓𝒔𝒅𝒂𝒚—a weekly post where I’ll share works in progress, finished projects, sewing tips, and maybe even some behind-the-scenes peeks.

To kick things off, I want to take a trip down memory lane. 𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙨𝙩 𝙥𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙚 𝙄 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙨𝙚𝙬𝙚𝙙! Back in the summer of 2001, I was visiting my Granny for a family reunion. She let some of my cousins and me dig through her fabric scraps and taught us how to sew our own purses. That little project sparked something in me—I went on to take sewing classes in high school, and my love for sewing has only grown since then.

I still have this purse to this day, and I’m so thankful my Granny instilled a love for sewing in me. It’s a blessing to carry on her legacy. ❤️

My son is now my official thread picker when it comes to color matching. This makes twice this week he has immediately chosen the correct color thread as soon as we walk up to the thread display. I even second guessed his color choice today and was wrong. He's got an eye for this.
