That tiny glass bottle there in the middle is one of the keepsakes I found at the Blue Barn. It’s filled with olive oil (I’m pretty sure). My grandfather carried it every day in the front chest pocket of his jumpsuit. He would use it to anoint people with oil when he prayed for them, especially my cousin, Michael, when we were young because he seemed to need it the most. He was the fearless leader of the older cousins and led us into repeated trouble. I mean, fun. My other cousins will concur!😆

I was reminded of this little bottle this morning as I was listening to my friend preach. He has a little bottle too. No jumpsuit, but I think he could pull it off.

Happy Sunday to all of you!

In honor of the 152nd running of the Kentucky Derby, my annual post of me as an infant with my paternal grandparents at Churchill Downs. I was born in Louisville while my dad was attending The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. We lived there for a short time before moving back to Texas where my dad began his football coaching career.

Check out the cool dude in the background owning his high waisted pants, wide collared shirt, and thick mane. I love the 70s bohemian style and would have fully embraced it.🌸☮️🌈

Wishing all of the horses and jockeys a safe race today! Now please pass the Mint Juleps!

It was three years ago tonight that my grandmother, Mamoo, left this earthly life. The day before she died, I was sitting with her when she started reciting the Lord’s Prayer and said what I’m certain I heard, “I made it to the throne.” She hadn’t spoken for a couple of days before that and didn’t speak again after that. I will honor her with a Dr Pepper and remember her optimism, encouragement, and love. Her obituary was written as a tribute and reposted in the bio to honor her today.🩵

I can taste the sugar on that table! I think this was at my paternal grandmother’s house in Oklahoma City. can tell us. I had on a girlie getup which was a rare occasion. I preferred soccer clothes. Why I couldn’t wear my regular uniform on Easter, I don’t know. After all, Jesus said, “Come as you are.”

Wherever you sit today, Happy Easter and Happy Passover to our Jewish friends!

Spring is here in Texas, and that means…time to GARDEN!🪴🥕

I’m a 4th generation gardener and happiest with my hands in dirt and the gardener’s manicure.🤎

My grandfather always had a vegetable garden. My mom is a pro at flowers, potted plants, and hanging baskets. Now the 5th generation is learning through the garden diner and dirt soup. And if I’m to be honest, my 8 year old niece’s vegetable garden outpaces mine.🥦🌽🌶️

The garden is a place for community, creativity, play, nutritional education, wonder, reward, solitude, meditation, and suntans.☀️👙

Give it a try. In your yard, a raised bed, a kitchen window, a pot on your porch, or with dirt soup.🍲

Happy gardening!
