Repositioning malls to be more experiential and diversify their offerings has been a big part of PREIT’s strategy for increasing traffic and making its properties more relevant to customers. By paying close attention to surrounding areas and demographics, PREIT has been able to craft experiences that are relevant to each location.

CNBC visited The Mall at Prince George's outside of Washington DC to see the impact of including fitness facilities in malls.

PREIT continues to be at the forefront of the trend by bringing a range of fitness uses to our centers; from large health clubs such as OneLife Fitness opening soon in at Valley Mall in Hagerstown, MD to boutique workout experiences like Orangetheory Fitness at Moorestown Mall and CycleBar at Plymouth Meeting Mall - both in the Philadelphia DMA.

The fitness industry is booming. The mall business is not. Put a gym in a mall, and boom, you suddenly have a busier mall.
