I am at the point of my pregnancy where I am starting to feel myself again. For me, the first 3 or so months are the hardest. It gets tough again at the end, when you’re waddling around and super anxious to meet your precious baby, days slow down, the waiting gets tough. Yet, for me, the physical illness and exhaustion at the very beginning is the hardest.
With this pregnancy, I was prepared, I was hopeful that I wouldn’t feel as sick as I did with the first, but I knew that it would most likely happen, and it did.
The one thing that I did very differently with this pregnancy vs the first, is I allowed myself to step away from as much as I was able to. I worked less, said no more, went to bed early, slept in when I needed it, didn’t worry about making it to the gym or eating the perfect diet. I simply tried to stay in tune with my body and provide it with what it needed. I had a lot of grace for myself. We ate a lot of take out and frozen meals, our house wasn’t in tip top shape, and that’s totally ok. It helped me get through this season without any added stressors, which made everything so much easier.
Now that I am feeling much better, I am cooking again and enjoying it, my house is tidy again and I am back to the gym and a regular work schedule. It feels good to be back, but I am glad I allowed myself to step back when I needed it.
It’s important to know when to push yourself and when to step back. Some people by nature need to relax more and give themselves grace, while others need more of a push. We’re all different and not one is better, but it’s important to know the kind of person you are and when you need to push through and when you just need a nap.
Which kind of person are you more of the time? Do you need to push yourself a little more, or do you need to give yourself a little more grace? I’d love to know, leave your answer in the comments below!
