5 reasons why you shouldnโt copy sub2 marathoner Eliud Kipchoge and his training.
And some suggestions on what to do instead.
1. He has built up to 150-200 km of running per week, gradually over years and years of training.
2. He has nutritionists helping with his diet
3. He can get access to massage and physiotherapists, helping avoid injury
4. He does not have a full time job, so can rest and sleep during the day.
5. He has full time experienced coaches helping with every decision he makes
While it is easy to copy what others are doing, it is rarely valuable.
Instead, look a little deeper and try to learn WHY the athlete is doing what they do and learn from them. Then incorporate these changes into your own individualized training programme.
WHAT CAN WE LEARN FROM PROFESSIONAL RUNNERS ?
1. They do the majority of their training at an aerobic pace.
2. They dedicate time for a warm up and cool down for every session
3. They stretch and/or foam roll everyday.
4. They dont eat junk food. They fuel themselves with whole natural foods.
5. They do strength work every week.
6. They get at least 8 hours of sleep a night
7. They are very consistent with their training, all year round.
8. If they are professional, then training and racing is their job, they donโt have to work 40hrs plus a week like the rest of us ๐
