Market Square Arena & it’s mark on Indianapolis history 🏀⬇️

Market Square Arena opened in 1974 to help revitalize the Market Street area and provide a modern home for pro sports and major events in Indy

It was the home of the Indiana Pacers who moved there following their stint at the Indiana Fairgrounds playing inside the coliseum

It hosted tons of concerts that came through Indy including Michael Jackson, Prince, and most famously Elvis Presley’s final live performance in 1977 shortly before his death

It was also home to other local teams such as the Indianapolis Racers and Ice hockey teams as well as several NCAA Final Fours, the National Sports Festival and had appearances by other famous individuals such as the Dalai Lama

While MSA was a great centralized location for the Pacers, as the NBA expanded into the 90s, there was a need for an upgraded stadium and more modern venue features such as luxury suites which MSA did not have

After 25 years, the final game at MSA was played in 1999 during the Pacers preseason against the Utah Jazz

The new stadium was Conseco Fieldhouse (now Gainbridge Fieldhouse) home to the Pacers and Fever as well as many other concerts and events that still take place today
