Once Upon a Seamstress Formal gown alterations including bridal gowns, wedding party, and custom designs. My name is Laura Melvin, and I am delighted to call myself a seamstress.

Dedication is required to master this time-honored and detailed profession. I love what I do, and I hope my passion gives you peace of mind knowing that your precious gown is in the best of hands. I work from home which keeps my prices low and makes your fitting appointments more comfortable. We are smoke-free and pet-free. Every gown is different, so I cannot list exact prices for each individual

alteration. Please feel free to message me for an estimate. I'd love to chat with you. My location is not handicap accessible, so I offer FREE mobile appointments done in the comfort of your own home for those individuals who are in need. "Even miracles take a little time." I recognize that event dates are currently uncertain, but it is to everyone's benefit to set an appointment as early as possible. I will work with you if dates change.

I don't usually post before and afters. I never want to make anyone feel uncomfortable. Jenna and her daddy said I could make an exception. She chose to redesign her Mother-in-love's dress. We cut all of the scallops off of the neckline and added a peekaboo V to make the dress more modern. We detached the sleeves and turned them into chic, fingerless gloves. There was a lot done to the bodice and skirt to make them fit perfectly like the dress was made just for Jenna. And finally we crowned her with a custom-made pearl veil to flatter the pearls all over her gown. She was a beautiful bride 💜

I need everyone to know that I made these sleeves completely from scratch based on an inspo picture Autumn showed me. She had the incredible forethought to buy matching fabric when she ordered her gown (yes, you can do that🤯) I designed the pattern and kept notes, so if anyone else is interested in gigantic puffy sleeves, just let me know. I'd love to make them again.

You pick me to alter your dress because I'm a specialist who knows how to do complicated stuff. Hemming a beaded dress requires extra attention and TLC. Smashing glass beads with a hammer is the best way to remove them from the hem without cutting any threads. All of the beads stay in place on the rest of the dress.

Happy Friday the 13th!!
Skyelar had this vision in her head where she slashed her way down the aisle to get to her true love. There was much deliberation on whether she was using a hatchet or machete. I also questioned whether she was right-handed because blood splatter is directional. I have dyed quite a few pieces of clothing but this is by far the most interesting.

If you are getting married in 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣6️⃣ or 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣7️⃣, please book now. It is never too early. I'm already half full for June 2027 and October 2027 brides because those are the most popular wedding months. Please plan accordingly.
