RAFFLE TIME

This hat band marks the end of a chapter.

It is the final band in this series, featuring sage grouse feathers—a native bird that I have very limited access to. What makes this piece especially meaningful is that every major element was sourced right here in Wyoming. The sage grouse and pheasant were hunted in Wyoming, the elk hide was harvested from an elk I hunted in Wyoming, and the deer hide capping the band was also hunted in Wyoming.

To close out the series, I used the last of these vintage sterling silver and turquoise conchos, making this a truly one-of-a-kind piece that can never be recreated exactly.

Well, we have another chapter coming to a close.

This will be the last hat band made from this Concho series. I do hope to source a similar set someday, but with silver prices where they are right now, finding pieces of this size at a reasonable cost has become increasingly difficult.

I do have one more Concho set tucked away, and when that band is finished, it will mark the end of another style as well. I think it might be fun to raffle that final piece off when the time comes. There’s something special about celebrating the close of a chapter, especially when you know it won’t be repeated.

This is one of the things I love most about the work I do. Everything is made in limited quantities and small batches. Even when I revisit a style, like my feathered truckers, I can never recreate the exact same piece twice and I don’t try to.

Beyond the mission behind Spruced Plume, that uniqueness is what makes the work so meaningful. Every piece is truly one of a kind, created in honor of the hunt, whole animal utilization, and the animals that feed me. It’s my way of creating wearable art while pursuing a lifestyle rooted in sustainability, respect, and intention.

Last night I hosted my very first magnetic plume workshop in my new workspace in Jackson, Wyoming, and I had such a wonderful time.

A huge thank you to Jennifer and Cathie for spending the evening creating with me. One of the things I loved most about keeping the group small was the opportunity to slow down, chat, share stories, and provide a more individualized experience throughout the workshop. It felt less like a class and more like an evening spent creating together.

The experience confirmed something I’ve been thinking about for a while: small-group workshops are something I would love to continue offering. Going forward, I will be opening up opportunities for private groups to book workshops on dates that work best for them, whether it’s a gathering of friends, family, coworkers, or a special occasion.

I also heard from many of you who wanted to attend but live out of state, were traveling, or simply couldn’t make the date work. Because of that enthusiasm, I am actively working on a virtual workshop option so that more people can participate, regardless of where they live.

I am excited to continue growing this side of Spruced Plume and creating opportunities for people to learn a new skill, spend time in community, and leave with something they made themselves. Thank you to everyone who has expressed interest so far. More to come soon.

One of my favorite things about the magnetic plumes and magnetic feather lapel pieces I make is that they’re really one and the same. A plume can live on your cowboy or cowgirl hat one day, become a wedding lapel accessory the next, and if you’re feeling particularly creative, even serve as the fanciest magnet on your refrigerator.
The magnetic backing is what makes it all possible. No pins, no holes, no damage to your felt hats, jackets, vests, or clothing. Just a secure hold and the freedom to move your piece wherever you’d like. The only place I don’t recommend putting one? The hood of your truck. They’ll hold, but the wear and tear of the road is a little more adventure than they were designed for.
I’m especially excited because tomorrow I’ll be hosting my very first in-person workshop in my Jackson, Wyoming workspace. It feels like the perfect way to christen the space and share the process behind these pieces with the attendees.
And for those who wanted to attend but live out of town, in another state, or simply have other plans, I have good news: the virtual workshop has officially moved beyond the idea stage. A virtual workshop with a kit option is in the works, and this is your official teaser.
For now, all I ask is a little patience. More details are coming, and I can’t wait to create with you wherever you are.

I am so excited to officially have a Spruced Plume workshop in town!

On Wednesday, June 17, from 6:00–8:00 PM, I’ll be teaching an in-person Magnetic Plume Workshop where you’ll learn how to create your own one-of-a-kind magnetic plume for your favorite cowboy or cowgirl hat.

We’ll be working with sustainably harvested feathers, and all materials will be provided—just show up ready to create. By the end of the evening, you’ll leave with a handcrafted magnetic plume of your own.

A few double fan feathered truckers just hit my stories and are currently up for grabs. I featured all three here because they deserved their moment, but the green one sold in yesterday’s drop. The cream and brown base hats are still available, so if one is calling your name please shoot me a direct message.

I’ve been getting quite a few requests to start making these again, which honestly means a lot. These hats are incredibly time intensive and definitely fall into the category of “made when inspiration and bandwidth align.” They take patience, good materials, and a little bit of creative magic to bring together, which means I can’t produce them in large quantities.

That said, I really do love making them. They feel bold, unique, and very true to the spirit of Spruced Plume. Hoping to carve out more time for them in the future because they are just too lovely not to keep creating.

We know the iconic has great taste. It is always surreal seeing Spruced Plume pieces out in the wild, but especially when they are attached to someone who represents so much of what I admire. Beyond being an absolute country powerhouse, Lainey carries herself with authenticity, grit, humility, and a deep respect for where she came from, and I think that is a huge part of why so many people connect with her.

As a small brand built by hand in Wyoming, it means a lot to see my work aligned with someone who feels so genuine and grounded despite her massive success. Watching Spruced Plume pieces show up in commercials, performances, music videos, and moments tied to her career honestly never gets old. I am incredibly grateful for every stylist , creative, and person behind the scenes who has helped put my work in rooms I never imagined it would reach.

There is something really special about building a brand slowly and intentionally and then seeing it resonate with people you deeply respect. I will never stop appreciating moments like these.

A taste of Iceland thus far. I’ve jumped headfirst into a crash course in spring lambing while helping get horses legged up for the season. It’s hands-on, it’s humbling, and it’s the kind of experience you can’t replicate from the outside looking in.

I take a lot of pride in the global community I’ve built over the years—relationships that have given me a reason to travel, but more importantly, a way to truly live in the places I go. Not just visit, but participate. To step into someone else’s rhythm, their work, their way of life.

Travel has always been important to me because it pushes me out of my comfort zone in the best way. It strips away assumptions and expands perspective. Experiencing how others live outside of my own bubble has made me more understanding, more accepting, and more aware of the many ways a life can be lived fully and authentically.

When I look back, so many of the biggest transitions in my life have been sparked by travel. It has shaped how I think, how I move through the world, and how I choose to show up. It’s made me less interested in following along with the masses and more committed to carving out a life that feels true to me.

I’m deeply grateful that I’ve prioritized this in my life. It has made me a better human—more open, more curious, and more connected to the world beyond my own backyard.
