Asaph was a musician in the Bible who is mentioned primarily in the book of Psalms. He is credited with writing twelve of the psalms, specifically Psalm 50 and Psalms 73-83. Asaph was one of three Levites appointed by King David to lead worship in the tabernacle, along with Heman and Jeduthun (1 Chronicles 16:37-38). Asaph and his descendants continued to serve as musicians and singers in the temple throughout the reigns of subsequent kings. The Psalms attributed to Asaph often reflect on God's sovereignty and justice, as well as the struggles and doubts of the psalmist.
