International Women's Day is celebrated on March 8th every year. It is a global day dedicated to recognizing the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women and to raising awareness about the ongoing struggle for gender equality. The theme for International Women's Day 2023 is yet to be announced.
The origins of International Women's Day can be traced back to the early 1900s, when women in many parts of the world were starting to organize and campaign for better working conditions, suffrage, and other women's rights issues. In 1908, thousands of women marched through the streets of New York City to demand better pay, shorter working hours, and voting rights.
In 1910, an International Women's Conference was held in Copenhagen, Denmark, where a proposal to create an International Women's Day was put forward. The idea was unanimously accepted by the conference, and the first International Women's Day was celebrated the following year, on March 19, 1911, in Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland.
Since then, International Women's Day has grown to become a global celebration of women's achievements and a call to action for gender equality. It is observed in many countries around the world with events, marches, and other activities that focus on women's rights, gender equality, and empowerment.
