Here we go again. Despite hiring another firm, these newest designers have found some Anywhere USA 1980's clip art to somehow represent neighborhoods like Brooklyn, LaVilla, South Jacksonville and the Northbank... which have their own unique identities going back so far as the 1700's and 1800's. Another $150,000 of taxpayers money have been lit on fire faster than the Great Fire of 1901. Make it stop!!!

Simple changes can take the proposal to redevelop the former Times Union site from looking less like St Johns Town Center (SJTC actually has wider sidewalks than what's being proposed here), to a more appropriate design for an urban neighborhood like BrooklynJax.

Please take this survey so that generic garbage like the image on the right is not plastered everywhere throughout our neighborhood.

On the left is an actual logo which celebrates the fact that BrooklynJax has been a neighborhood contributing to Jacksonville's uniqueness for over 150 years. Brooklyn was an important fort that defended Jacksonville during the Civil War. After the war, it became a diverse neighborhood where freed slaves built a new life together while just a few blocks away the titans of Jacksonville's industry built lavish estates along the river. It was home to colorful characters that owned everything from candy factories to radio stations. It was where the streetcars that fueled the development of Jacksonville's core city would emanate from. It was where journalists from the Times Union to the Florida Star would speak truth to power. It was where Southern Rock legends like Lynard Skynard and .38 Special owned music studios. It was where all walks of life would gather in places like Tads or Fat Rounds. It was where homegrown Fortune 500 companies were born. Jacksonville would not be Jacksonville without Brooklyn.
Please do not let the City of Jacksonville allow generic, soulless garbage be the face of our community.

*The irony is not lost that this proposed branding celebrates the 'arts' The City tore down the last art studio in the neighborhood over 20 years ago to make way for a six lane roadway that decades later still has not lived up to its predicted automobile traffic counts.
