This is a great midcentury set of matching wood kitchen canisters and salt and pepper shakers, along with a hamburger press. White roosters on top of a weathervane are painted on the fronts. $54 + cheapest shipping possible. See my Etsy shop at www.etsy.com/shop/bloomagainvintage for more pics. The canisters are not marked “Flour, Sugar, etc.” Here are the sizes:
• 6” wide, 7 ¼” deep, and 6 ¾” high
• 5 5/8” wide, 6 5/8” deep, and 5 ¾” high
• 4 ¾” wide, 6” deep, and 4 ¾” high
• 4” wide, 5 3/8” deep, and 3 ¾” high
They are beautifully made of what I believe may be maple wood, with dovetailed corners. The finish is worn in several areas on the bodies and lids of the canisters, and the paint on the roosters and weathervanes is scratched or worn on in some areas.
The salt and pepper shakers are 3 ½” tall and 2” wide and deep. The finish and paint also show wear; the finish mostly so on the lids. The hamburger press has some spots on the finish.
The canisters and shakers are marked “The Red Bird Line Hand Decorated Japan.” They were probably made in the 1950s.
