February 29th (top photo) vs April 27th (bottom photo). You’ve heard how small businesses would be hit hard during the Covid 19 shutdown. Well, Dusty Deserette was about as small as they come; 120 square feet of interior retail space and operated solely by one woman.
It was a difficult decision 😢 to close the shop doors permanently after four years, but I decided to look fear and uncertainty right in the eye. I could struggle to hold on tight to what I had or I could let it go with blind faith that something better would take its place. 🤞🏻Because as the saying goes, “if it doesn’t challenge us, it doesn’t change us.” And honestly, I sometimes need a little push on the t**h from The Universe 😉 to widen my wingspan and set my soaring heights higher. 🦅
I’m so grateful for the opportunity to have provided two of my passions to the world...clothing and accessories. I’m so thankful 🙏🏽 to each and every customer who helped support a small business. Often times, the shop doubled as a space for impromptu connection and conversation with so many of you, which I’ll always treasure. ❤️
Being a member of Joshua Tree’s East Village and Sun Alley Shops often meant I was a volunteer representative of the community and an information guide to so many tourists; a role that I cherished (most of the time 🤪). And I can’t forget my memories of festive annual block parties, gay pride 🏳️🌈 celebrations, monthly 2nd Saturday Art Crawls or how I stumbled my way into producing 6 fashion shows 💃🏻 on the property’s outdoor stages. Yep, it was four fantastic years.
Now, I heed the call to a new beginning. I am so thrilled to announce 📣 a forthcoming mobile clothing/accessory shop! No doubt there will be some crossover from Dusty Deserette but the vision, aesthetics and merchandise will see exciting changes. I’ll be traveling nomadically with the mobile shop and doing pop-ups at various events and locations (when it’s deemed safe/appropriate to do so).
So please check out my new vending endeavor on IG and follow me there for more details.
Take care of yourself and others and I hope to see you down the road...✌🏾
