Mountain babies growing up together. 🌲👶🦃

I am so glad my own kiddos get to see the turkeys regularly.

There were about 10 eight week old baby turkeys with two mommies watching over them in the yard at the Kentwood Kottage the other day.

These little visitors always bring our family so much spontaneous joy. 🥹✨

Living out here means you can’t just ‘pop into the store’.

Most people look at an 8.5-hour errand day as a nightmare, but when you live an hour down a winding mountain highway from the nearest major city, this is necessary from time to time for our rural lifestyle. 🏔️🚗

The biggest rule of survival? We only tackle these massive, jam-packed days when we can do them together as a team. Whenever one of us is taking a solo trip with the kids, we strictly limit it to one or two quick stops max so everyone stays sane!

Here is how we survive the big family city run:

⏱️ The Appointment Pivot: We stack city appointments to save gas.

🧸 The Play Break: Planning a park stop right in the middle keeps the kids from losing their minds in their car seats.

😴 Car Naps: Are a must.

🛒 The Temperature Game: Shopping for all non-perishables first, and saving the closest chain grocery store for the very last stop so the cold items don’t spoil on the drive back up the mountain!

For my fellow rural or small-town families, how many errands do you try to squeeze into a single city trip before you call it quits? 👇
