The shuttlecock immediately came to mind when using iconic designs to showcase pride in KC and the LGBT+ community. Sadly, the artist behind the sculptures has passed away.

The Swedish-born, New York City-based artist was famed for his gargantuan renditions of prosaic objects — a lipstick, a clothespin, a cherry perched on a spoon — installed as public art. Some of his most iconic works live on at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City.

It is great to see Kansas Citians standing against hate.

The Kansas City United Church of Christ in Brookside was visited by area politicians the Sunday after its LGBTQIA+ affirming artwork was vandalized. Members say they want people to know that the congregation will always stand up for the rights of others.
