My opportunity to build a Monarch Butterfly Waystation isn't going to happen.

My passion for dogs outweighs the butterflies. I have always taken my puppy Mira when I garden. Unfortunately the milkweed that is essential to Butterfly breeding is poisonous to dogs.

Mira is sick today from just biting a plant. The vet assures me this small of an amount is not fatal. She will get it out of her system soon.

In the area I was working several people exercise their dogs. One plant has disappeared and one dog may have consumed enough to have a life threatening episode.

I'll keep planting the cultivators but the milkweed has to go. The garden will provide food sources for many types of butterflies, bees, and birds.

There is no amount of disappointment that would stop me from doing what could harm any dog.
