8 local KC designers reveal their original interpretation of the little black dress, on display throughout the evening. Enjoy light bites, caviar, and champagne while our Fashion Round Table unpacks the history and legacy of fashion’s most iconic garment and who’s shaping that legacy today.

PART TWO
📆 Thursday, September 24 | 6–8pm
📍 The Museum of Kansas City

In partnership with The Museum of Kansas City, the 8 designer dresses take center stage in a brand-new exhibit: FGI and The Museum of Kansas City Present: The Little Black Dress. Tour the exhibit, hear from each designer on their inspiration, then head to The Elixir for cocktails and after-hours beats. Your ticket includes one Signature Espresso Martini on us.

Three months ago I was laid off from my corporate design job. The majority of my team and I were let go due to a reduction in force. My story is not unique as countless talented creative folks are being let go every week — we see our colleagues and friends posting their updates, goodbyes and words of gratitude for the time they had.

Coincidentally, the exact day I received the news was the day I moved my collection into an extended pop-up retail space within Precious Frivolities — an elevated shopping experience in downtown Kansas City (as part of Kansas City’s Open Doors initiative with the FIFA World Cup). As they say, one door closes and another opens. It has been both humbling and exciting to navigate new opportunities in such a short time frame.

Fast forward to today, and looking back at the whirlwind of the last few months, my perspective has shifted and I am so grateful for the opportunity that presented itself. I was able to bring all my skills to this project — from hosting my own Trunk Show, to running the front of house at the retail shop and servicing customers, managing the website, to planning, marketing and executing a sold out fashion show with shop owner and visionary April Madden, which included designing all the marketing materials as well as designing a new collection to showcase. I have been commissioned to work on branding and graphic design work, couture gowns, alterations and custom projects for new clients. Having my garments hanging in a retail environment has been a dream come true, and one that is shortly coming to a close at the end of September (with hopes of reopening with a new space and new lease). So now I am looking to the future and planning what’s next. I am open to new opportunities and hoping to connect with the talented humans I have known and worked with over the past two decades of my career touching many industries within design.
