Fourteen years ago, we bought our first home under circumstances we never could have imagined. When Rowan’s dad passed away 6 months into us dating and he received some inheritance money, we had one goal in mind and that was to buy a house. Growing up, his family moved around a lot and having a stable environment was something both of us talked a lot about in the early days of dating. What began from one of life’s hardest moments became the foundation for so many of our happiest ones. It turned into the longest either one of us has lived in the same place.
I was 21 and he was 25 when we officially signed the papers. We got engaged, got married, started Crochet City, and became dog parents. We poured countless hours into updating and improving every corner and crevice and turned this house into a home.
This house has been so much more than four walls. It’s where we learned big life lessons, celebrated milestones, and built our lives together.
As we celebrate 15 years of being together, we are closing one chapter and opening another. Instead of selling our first home, we are turning it into our first rental property. It’s bittersweet to leave behind the place that has been part of so many of our biggest moments, but there is definitely something special about knowing it will continue to be a home where someone else can create memories of their own.
Here’s to new beginnings, new adventures, and the home that helped shape so much of who we are.
