For as long as I can remember, I have been obsessed with Dolly Parton. Anyone who knows me even a little, knows this about me. From famous people reports in elementary school, to my bachelorette party, to the delivery of one of my boys, Dolly has been an ever present part of my life story.

It started out with her over-the-top style, then I started getting into her music. As I got older, it was more about her kindness and generosity, the way she united people with wildly different beliefs, her emphasis on literacy, and her ability to always find the good.

One misty early-fall evening in Georgia in my twenties, my aunt and I saw Dolly perform live at a small outdoor theater. Because of the weather, the concert was less crowded than anticipated. Dolly would sing a song then follow with a story that had the whole audience captivated. Each story effortlessly led into the next song. It was magical! That night she sang Little Sparrow and I was forever changed- the way her vocals ran thru every ounce of my bones, is a moment I will never forget.

Itā€™s funny how much Iā€™ve learned from a person Iā€™ve never met. Her unapologetic personality and style, her refusing to be the butt of the joke and instead get in on it, and her ability to see people as humans who deserve love and kindness are my favorites (besides ā€œif sags, drags, or lags, itā€™s gonna be nipped, tucked, and suckedā€šŸ˜†)

Thereā€™s so much Dolly has taught the world and I hope I never go a day without living by ā€œWhat Would Dolly Do?ā€

We will always love you, Dolly šŸ¦‹
