Caleb is a 9 year old nonverbal sweet autistic boy. His dog, Gabbi, just passed and he is having a hard time adjusting. He just doesn't understand why she is gone. His parents have decided to start the service dog venture right away, to help Caleb adjust as quickly as possible.
Service dogs are considered medical equipment. They help their person in many ways: opening doors, helping with anxiety, overstimulation, seizures, locating a person, bringing items to them, and so much more. For this reason, it is a very lengthy and expensive medical venture. It takes up to 2 years to train a proper service dog. Along with the cost of the dog and training, between $17-$25,000.
