Hey parents, it’s okay.
It’s okay if you have to readjust a rule.
It’s okay if you realize that what you’re allowing isn’t something you want to allow anymore.
It’s okay to have a family meeting and say “hey guys, some things are going to change and here’s why.”
It’s okay to look at disappointed faces and have to wipe away tears because you’re making a change that isn’t eagerly accepted.
It’s okay to say “I’m sorry but mommy and daddy have reconsidered this and moving forward this is the way it will be.”
It’s okay because YOU are growing, too. You are learning, too.
It’s okay to be the parent. To make the hard decisions. To set the boundaries.
Because if you don’t do it, no one else will.
And those children are worth it. They are worth every tough, hard to keep rule or consequence that you have.
They are worth you putting on your best parenting hat.
They are worth you being “the meanest mom and dad” in the world.
They are worth every frustrated moment.
They are worth every moment you have to stop and bend a knee and redirect or readdress a situation.
They are worth every 180 degrees turn you have to make in your parenting when you see signs in the distance that they can’t yet see.
They are worth parents who stand like tall, strong redwoods that don’t bend to the changing winds of culture.
They are worth it.
And mom and dad…it’s going to be okay.
