From Drab to Fab with Dixie Belle Thicket

Before: this Amish made hutch was a tired reddish hue in desperate need of love. I adored the shape but it felt dark and dated (first picture). We acquired it from Lancaster, Pennsylvania directly from the Amish family who crafted it.

After: two coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint in Thicket transformed it into the moody, moss‑inspired neutral of my dreams. Dixie Belle describes Thicket as a rich hue that “adds depth and sophistication to furniture ,” and they’re absolutely right—it pairs beautifully with warm neutrals, gold accents and rustic wood.

Here’s what was done for this makeover:
• Gave the piece a thorough cleaning.
• Applied two coats of Thicket (no priming needed thanks to chalk paint’s coverage!).
• Sealed it with Dixie Belle’s Satin Clear Coat for durability.

Now this hutch is the star of the room, and the deep neutral backdrop makes my vintage Royal Albert Old Country Roses and accessories pop. If you’re looking for a deep, earthy neutral to create a bold yet inviting space, Thicket is an amazing choice !

If you are interested to try Dixie Belle, let us know! We have inventory at the shop or we can take an order and send directly to your home Feel free to message us or visit the shop!

A Treasure Hunt Worth Remembering

We had the joy of picking up treasures for the shop from this breathtaking estate, and it was one for the books. With its red-roofed stone farmhouse, towering shade trees, vintage outdoor hearth, and even a weathered log cabin, this place felt like stepping into a story.

The ancient roses blooming out back seemed to whisper of a place long cherished—tended with love and care by generations before. Their petals, though weathered, were vibrant—just like the treasures we brought home.

Pieces from this estate will be making their way into Two Sisters’ Cellar soon, and each one carries a bit of this home’s soul with it.

EARLY TIMES — more than just a label on a crate… it’s a feeling. A memory. A return.

For those of us who love the hunt, “Early Times” pulls at the heart. It reminds us of a slower world—where drawers stuck a little, clocks ticked louder, and things were made to last.

Vintage lovers don’t just collect things… we collect stories. Like the scent of old wood. The craftsmanship of a tin box hand-painted with sunflowers. The humble elegance of stacked pantry boxes. Each piece whispers, “I’ve seen a hundred years, and I’m still here.”

But for us, it runs even deeper. Every display we create, every treasure we find, carries forward the legacy of the generations who came before us—our parents and grandparents who filled their homes with meaning, even when times were hard. They passed down more than recipes and tools… they passed down a way of life.

So when we see “Early Times” on a weathered crate or tucked in a corner of a display, we’re not just looking at decor. We’re honoring the past and carrying it gently into the present. I know that resonates with so may of you, too

Come by and find a story that speaks to you. We’re open and full of new old things

Some families love Pyrex… and then there’s this sweet family who lives it. ❤️

One of our sweetest customers recently shared something that made us want to share. This sweet mama got a tattoo of the iconic Pyrex Friendship pattern. Not just because it’s a beautiful design (though it absolutely is), but because it means something to her. The meaning goes beyond a bowl, pattern, or a “thing”.

The Friendship pattern, first released in 1971, features cheery red birds and bright florals — symbols of joy, warmth, and togetherness. At the time, the design represented love between friends, the kind of enduring bond that gets passed down through generations — much like the dishes themselves which are often passed around amongst families and friends.

For this mama, it’s more than a nostalgic design. It’s a reminder of Sunday dinners, shared recipes, and teaching her two little girls the thrill of the hunt — how to spot a treasure, appreciate the past, and be patient and curious along the way. Her family, rooted in strong Christian values and farm life, embraces the beauty of simple things and the stories they carry. For Brooklyn, Emmanuel and their two sweet girls, it’s a quality of life and the focus on their family that is the priority. Hunting for and collecting Pyrex is a simple and meaningful way they do life together.

When we say we love sharing this passion with our customers, this is exactly what we mean. It’s not just glassware — it’s connection, legacy, and love. This family has touched us. We light up when we see them, becaue of shared passions that started with Pyrex and now mean much more

20% OFF Antique Possum Belly Baker’s Cabinet
Originally $650 – now just $520

This rare and charming oak possum belly baker’s cabinet is a true piece of American culinary history. Popular in the early 1900s, these cabinets were designed with curved metal drawers – nicknamed “possum bellies” – to hold flour and sugar. The rounded shape made scooping easier and kept ingredients fresher for home bakers before modern kitchens ever existed.

Crafted for Function. Loved for Beauty.
With its glass-front doors, porcelain k***s, and deep storage drawers, this piece once stood proudly in a farmhouse kitchen, likely serving up warm biscuits and pies from scratch. Now, it’s ready to be loved again in your home.

Styling Ideas:
• Fill the glass cabinets with your favorite vintage Pyrex or Jadeite (just like we’ve shown here)
• Add baskets of linen napkins or rolling pins in the drawers for texture
• Display cookbooks or mixing bowls on the pull-out work surface
• Use in a dining room, entryway, or even a creative coffee bar setup

This cabinet blends beauty, history, and function – a true heirloom piece. Come see it in person at Two Sisters’ Cellar and take home a story worth sharing.

The pics below utilized Rustic Red Chalk Paint and Clear Satin Top Coat. This is a 200 year old pie safe with maybe as many layers of paint already on it! The Chalk Paint worked miracles and we finished by using a thin layer of clear satin. It’s now such a gem!
