Be on the look out for this fake Magnalite. Notice the spelling: MAGNALTITE. They added an extra "T", but on quick glance it appears to read "Magnalite".

Get to know your Magnalite:

Wagner Ware made two different Magnalite tea kettles, a 2.5 quart (model 4133) and a 5 quart (model 4135). The kettles were designed by John G. Rideout in the 1930s.

Both kettles had wooden handles. The 5 quart had a brown stained handle and the 2.5 quart was most often painted black.

The 5 quart is rarer being production was stopped in the 1940s. The 2.5 quart was made from the 1930s to 1970s, which makes them easier to find.

The design is beautiful and very unique, but the kettles must be filled through the spout which is a little awkward. The lid is attached to the kettle and can only be removed by taking out a screw that goes through the handle.

Most kettles we find have bowed bottoms (spinners) being they were used to boil water, which was typically on high heat.

When the microwave oven rose to popularity in the 1970s, it provided a much faster way to boil water and kettles sales plummeted, which led them to be discontinued.

Magnalite customers outside of Louisiana often ask us, “Do you have a gumbo recipe?” …or jambalaya, etouffee, red beans, etc.

The Cajun Ninja’s cookbook contains authentic Cajun recipes like our South Louisiana parents and grandparents cooked. I’ve seen a lot of “Cajun cookbooks” over the years, but never one that truly represents Cajun Country so well. I can’t recommend this cookbook enough.

Happy New Year!

One of the questions we get most often is, “What are the different size Magnalite roasters?”

Magnalite produced four different size roasters:
4.5 quart roasterette (model 4263)
8 quart roaster (model 4265)
13 quart roaster (model 4267)
17 quart roaster (model 4269)

I have included pictures on a stove top to compare roaster quart sizes to stove burners. Not all stoves are the same, but this will give you a general idea.
