If you could save a life... Would You?

The Luis Danvers Leukemia Fund Inc. is bringing awareness to African American Bone Marrow Awareness Month which is observed in July. Donating marrow can cure someone with sickle cell anemia or life-threatening blood cancers. But only 6 out of 10 African American patients will receive the bone marrow transplant they need.

Bone marrow transplants often are used to treat leukemia; lymphomas; multiple myeloma; and other nonmalignant blood disorders, such as sickle cell anemia. Help raise awareness and join the registry today!

Leukemia is also the most common childhood cancer, though it is more common in adults than children still. It is also slightly more common in women. It requires a medical diagnosis.

Many patients with slow-growing types of leukemias don't have symptoms. Rapidly growing types of leukemia may cause symptoms that include:

1. fatigue
2. weight loss
3. frequent infections
4. easy bleeding or bruising

People may experience:

1. Pain areas: in the bones or joints
2. Whole body: dizziness, fatigue, fever, or loss of appetite

Also common: bleeding, easy bruising, frequent infections, mouth ulcer, nosebleed, pallor, red spots on skin, shortness of breath, swollen lymph nodes, unintentional weight loss, or weakness
