We are located in the small town of Groveland in Lake County, Florida. A quaint little town where orange groves, berry patches, tree farms, and livestock are the main industry. I started Handmade by Malee when we needed to supplement my teacher's salary to help pay for tuition for my boys in college. I was scared to death I would fail and so I named my company Malee, my brother's nickname for me.

I made about 20 hooded towels after much practice, ordered a tax ID number, and signed up at the Downtown Clermont Farmer's Market to sell my wares. I was clueless! Thankfully, Clermont is a wonderful town and the vendors assisted me with everything from getting a tent to taking credit cards. Voilà, we were in business.

By our second Christmas I had more orders than I could make by myself. My boys were on winter break so they and my husband learned to embroider. They worked hard making napkins and aprons, while I made those adorable hooded towels.

We are a long way from the 5 hooded towel designs I started with. We now have over 10,000 embroidery and applique designs. We embroider and applique towels, aprons, napkins, pillowcases, pillows, baby blankets, t-shirts, polo shirts, dress shirts, and even socks. We have added many brand names to our line as well. Names such as Gilden, Comfort Colors, North End, Harriton, Columbia, Bager, Champion, Dickies, and Lat (my favorite woman's Tee) and a whole lot more.

You can still find us at the Curbside Lakeland Farmer's Market on Saturdays and we still do designs and items that our customer's imaginations dream up.
