What do these names sound like? ✨

Magical Toucan. Petal Keeper. Wildflower Song. 🌺🦜🌼

They're the names of our rectangle cosmetic bags, designed to capture the mystery and beauty of Guatemala.

Did we capture it?

Each bag is handmade with repurposed traditional Guatemalan textiles, giving every one its own unique colors, patterns, and story. Perfect for travel essentials, back-to-school needs, makeup, jewelry, or any treasures you like to keep close at hand.

Because repurposed textiles vary, no two bags are exactly alike. And right now, they're 5% off for the next 5 days!

Which one will add joy to your daily routine?

🧵 This Thursday at WARP: Building Bridges Through Textiles

What happens when traditional textile art creates new opportunities for Indigenous women and their families?

Join us Thursday, August 20 at 2:00 PM U.S. Eastern Time for a free, virtual conversation with Martha Carmen López Nimacachi, a Kaqchikel textile artist from Santa Catarina Palopó, Guatemala, whose weaving journey began as a child and grew into a thriving textile business.

👉 Register today to receive the link to join and the recording to your inbox: https://weavearealpeace.org/warp-events/threads-of-community/?occurrence=2026-08-20

Martha will share her story, her experience mastering the backstrap loom, and how her work with Handmade By Friendship Bridge has connected her traditional craft with new markets and opportunities—while helping create jobs and support education for the next generation.

The conversation will also feature Nicole Eubanks and Sussan Hrozek from Friendship Bridge.

🌎 This event is free and open to all! We hope to see you there!

Today, on the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, we honor the Indigenous Maya. We are privileged to encourage, train, and work alongside them each day. Through this work, we've seen their true creative potential, despite living in impoverished areas of Guatemala. 💜 🇬🇹

We see them saying "yes" to innovative new art projects like our Beading Wonders Collection, that allow them to preserve their culture and teach others about the Indigenous Maya's worldview.

We see them learning to plan ahead in order to have the capacity to accept larger orders that generate more sales.

We see them reach beyond their local marketplaces, in order to create more economic opportunities for themselves, their families, and their communities.

We see them repurposing their resources into unique and creative designs that honor their heritage.

Their creativity—both in business and in their art—is transforming lives, preserving traditions, and reminding us that culture is one of the world's greatest strengths. 💜

📣 Great news! 🎉
A piece of artwork from our Beading Wonders Collection has won Honorable Mention in the 2026 Bead Arts Awards from the art & craft media company, Interweave! The winning entry, “Tz'i': Guardian of the Threshold," by María, will be featured at the Bead Arts Awards in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, going on now! Winners will be announced TODAY during Bead Fest.

The Bead Arts Awards recognize artists' original work: "Whether inspired by nature, personal experiences, cultural traditions, or pure imagination, every winning piece reminds us why beads remain such a powerful artistic medium."

María's artwork represents the Indigenous Maya nahual known as Tz’i, a vital energy thought to protect individuals throughout their lives, according to the Maya's worldview.

Welcome of Juana's workshop, where, since 2018, she's been faithfully crafting handmade textile items as a Handmade by Friendship Bridge® client.

As a girl growing up in Santa Lucía Utatlán in the department of Sololá, Juana's father could only afford to send her to school for a year and a half. As the eldest child, Juana was expected to support the family so the younger children could eat.

Juana married a tailor, and together, their business thrived. She joined Friendship Bridge when some of her customers began to default on payments for items ordered, causing the business to lose money.

Juana says she's learned the most from training topics on budget, investment, managing debt, and design. Now, Juana and her husband serve two different markets from their workshop: She creates items such as backpacks, pot holders, and fabric home decor items; he makes clothing.

Our Holidays in July event last week filled our U.S. office with so much joy! We were thrilled to welcome nearly twice as many guests as we originally expected, including grantors, wholesale partners, investors, and community supporters.

Together, we laughed over games of Lotería, explored our holiday collection, created ornaments, enjoyed decadent treats and drinks, and sent everyone home with a special gift.

Most of all, it was a meaningful opportunity to share the beauty and impact of Handmade by Friendship Bridge® while spending time with supporters who mean so much to us. Thank you to everyone who joined us and made the day so memorable!
