Although you may not be aware of it, every time you purchase an article of clothing you are either contributing to unethical working conditions or combating it. The sad truth is, most people would rather be oblivious to where their clothes come from, than face the grim reality of overseas manufacturing. The same way you would research a charity before donating to it, you should do your due diligence to ensure that the brands you are buying from are using ethical work practices. 400,000 workers are now owed over $55 million in un-paid wages in Karnataka, India. Brands must act immediately to make sure their suppliers pay up and stop cheating workers out of the legal minimum wage. As each month goes by, the amount owed to the workers will continue to grow.

At the same time brands like H&M & Gap need to act now to prevent the same thing from happening in the Sindh province of Pakistan, where factory owners are fighting against a minimum wage increase. The bare minimum that brands need to do is ensure at all times that their suppliers can and will pay at least what workers are owed by law.
