Capturing the essence of a product is new to me, but it's something I've enjoyed navigating. It seems very different from other types of photography I've experimented with, such as wedding or portrait, where the focus is on a particular moment, expression, personality, or relationship. I suppose as a consumer, I should know that product photography typically *does* sell an experience or emotion more than an actual product, but it's much harder to put that into your own photos!
With my decision to include various blooms alongside what I'm actually selling, it can be difficult to keep the focus on the product, because honestly, I love the flowers more! But I do like the process of trying to find the *right* flower to complement a piece - which depends on what I have blooming at the moment I'm ready to create a shot.
In this photo, I love the way the dark blue stones and buttery yellow petals contrast - in both color and texture - and bring attention to their unique qualities. Not exact complements, which makes the combination a little more surprising. It's been fun to bring my studio art background into play, even without a studio to work in!
