This past weekend, we had the privilege of participating in the Flyfishers Club of Pittsburgh holiday get-together. A highlight of the meeting was being joined by Joe Messinger (Jr), the son of Joe Messinger – the inventor of the Irresistible Adams and the Messinger frog pattern. Considering the time in America (1930-40s?), these patterns were extremely innovative. Joe was quite the creative individual. At our meeting, Joe demonstrated a passion for flyfishing and tying, and of his father’s works, and graciously took the time to share some history on these two patterns and why they proved so effective.

I was personally so excited to attend this meeting when I heard Joe was coming. I used to live right next door to Joe in West Virginia. I often look back on the fond memories down in WV, including Joe talking tying techniques and showing me some roll casting tips on the lake. He is such a wonderful guy. Thanks for the honor once again Joe!
