Day 2: Eco Friendly Dishwasher Pods 🍽️

Not an affiliate, just sharing my journey below…

That casing of a traditional (ie Cascade) pod is still problematic, even if you were to reuse the huge plastic tubs they came in.

So in an effort to get more sustainable and earth friendly options, I found some DIY “recipes” and some powder formulas you can purchase ( has some in their bulk section).

But for now I chose because, honestly, I really wanted another pod type product to make the switch easier for me. I know myself, and my routines, and the constant chaos of a toddler and having a tin in adult only reach that I can toss in a pod each evening after dinner is the kind of ease I need right now.

I liked the company’s mission & ethics, and after polling some friends, a couple of them use and like the brand. I used a discount code & got the dish bundle and a couple extra goodies I’ll tell you about in future posts.

So far they clean great. I also like the subscription option, and it seems like it’s easy to log in & adjust as needed. I can autopilot my cleaning supplies and not give myself a future task or succumb to funding Amazon? This is a triple win for me.

Day 1. Slow 🐌 Down.

Life is busy. There’s a lot in the world right now that can overwhelm us. Rest is critical.

Self care is not the capitalist buying of bathbombs. Self care is Caring for Your Self.

I recently read and have taken a lot of its lessons to heart. In the midst of busy-ness, we can still find slow. We must.

My husband and I decided to try something new. Monday is our rest day. So today, I’ve alotted an hour to myself, no work, no tech, no baby, just for me.

I slowly savored my coffee & breakfast, listening to the chatter around me. A woman planning her travels to the Philippines. A fellow business owner saying hello & a quick check on our lives. Then settled in to continue reading this delightful novel written by my dear friend .

It’s only an hour, but it’s mine to slow, to be present, to be intentional. To rest, so that I can continue on from a place of connection to my Self.

Low Waste Shifts 🌱 Bathrooms

I love a clean slate, and when I do something I want to jump in and do it all; But that’s not always sustainable. The point here is doable change. I’m starting with my bathroom.

Low waste things I already have in place are reusable face rounds for removing makeup, applying face stuff, etc. This is an EASY swap to make. The set I have came with a little mesh bag so I just pop them in there and tie it closed, toss it in the wash. If you’re using disposable pads or cotton balls, this is an easy swap to make!

Next, I use microfiber cleaning rags that weee either given to me or cane for free with other cleaning products. I label them and put them right on the container so it’s actually inconvenient for me NOT to use them. And yes my paper towels are still there, but they’re behind the rest so I really have to make an active choice to use them, and let me tell you it’s RARE.

Now you’ll see my improvements list on the last slide. Remember what I said about not doing all the things at once? The most sustainable purchase is the one you already made. So before you go tossing your shampoo for a bar, and tossing skincare products, start with what you need next.

For me that means toilet paper. We’ve got a couple rolls left, so I’m going to be looking into more waste free options. A bidet is out of our budget right now, and while sustainable TP may be more expensive, I haven’t run the math and that may be doable for now. The hubby is out of face soap, and doesn’t want to use mine, so he’s agreed to try a bar soap in a box packaging. Worth a shot!

Now back to those microfiber cloths… sigh. Microplastics. It’s a problem. I could get rid of these, but then they’re just waste. They work great and limit disposables. SO it’s time for me to go back into my research on microplastic filters for laundry. While one you add to your washer may be too pricey for our apartment, a laundry bag that filters microplastics might be an affordable option that can easily fit in my routine.

Lastly, we needed some new towels so I bought a set from Target with a gift card. I made sure to buy 100% cotton. And I’ll be donating our old towels to a pet shelter.

Another chapter in the closure of Sophie Stargazer. ⭐️ This week I emptied out my storage of fixtures, bags, display materials, tagging materials and more and donated it to the new , a new thrift shop raising funds for 🌈 It felt so good to pass these good on to another new business with an organization close to my heart. Thanks to for picking things up and working so hard to create a great sustainable resource in the community!

As much as I’ve loved doing our pop-ups, my schedule is a mess 😂 plus, my hubby and I are moving our home at the end of this month! (Don’t worry, we’re still keeping our home base here in Lancaster.)

So when owner Alex decided to add modern goods to her new location in the keppel building, we both knew that this was a win for both of us — and for you!!
