Indigo Tales

Indigo Tales Indigo Tales is a social venture that promotes exquisite handmade products made by underprivileged artisans in India.

Indigo Tales' products are made indigenously in villages using fair trade practices. Indigo Tales is a social venture which promotes handmade products by underprivileged skilled artisans from India and spreads their stories to the western world. Storytelling is an interactive art and we at Indigo Tales bring to you stories of skilled Indian artisans interpreted in a form that they add value to al

l associated with the story. We are guided by fair trade, superior quality and design and source our products from villages across India. We are proud to help transform an artisan to an artisan-entrepreneur and play a role in their story. The handicraft industry forms a major part of the rich cultural heritage of India. It is an unorganized, decentralized, labour intensive cottage industry and dates back to one of the oldest civilizations in the world. About 7 million artisans form a part of this industry and include women and persons from the backward classes. Majority of the artisans fall below the poverty line and are struggling for livelihood. At Indigo Tales we value the rich culture, heritage and skills of the artisans. We aim to promote the products across the western world by eliminating middlemen and maximizing gains to the artisan. Our team includes a lawyer and an MBA professional who have been passionately working with handicraft artisans in India for the past 7 years. They share a love for all things handmade and a will to make the lives of the artisans better.

Our partners: Tenacious women of Churu
Indigo Tales Summer/ Fall 2018 collection scarves are made by women artisans in the village of Churu, Rajasthan, India. These 300 women were left to fend for themselves and their children, without a source of livelihood, when their husbands left to find economic opportunities in other countries. They were organized, trained and led by Amrita, an enterprising entrepreneur from Churu to form an NGO called Disha Shekhawati. The women are skilled in various forms of tie and dye and work hard to make beautiful pieces every day in the extremely harsh climate that Churu experiences (50 degrees Celsius right now!). The tie and dye work helps empower the women by providing them with not only a stable source of income but also a sense of identity.
