While the shop doors have been closed this is what I’ve learned.
1. I always thought I had a “brown thumb” you know, as in brown, dried, dead, crusty as to green thumb for growing things in the dirt. I was wrong! I have found so much enjoyment in growing flowers. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve killed a few, cried over bugs devouring them as soon as they showed there beautiful colors, and thought what the hell am I doing sweating in 100* weather picking bugs off 80 foot rows of flowers by hand. But I can grow flowers! Beautiful flowers!
2. Community.
I started growing my seeds in my wash room in the middle of winter. Worried that none would make it, or make it once it was time to take them outside. I started building my flower beds as soon as my fingers wouldn’t freeze to my tools outside. And even tho I had met and enjoyed my neighbors, I learned how much they could help you grow. Physically and mentally. From friendly neighbors offering supplies, and dirt and even a helping hand to just having that passersby making sure to let me know how beautiful the flowers had become. Community is everything.
3. Change is good. I loved my shop and loved making and creating but I’m learning that you can still do those things in different ways. It has been very enlightening. My business had wore on me. I was tired physically. This has givin me the outlet to still create without all the pain. Knee surgery next month but look forward to it so I can get back to growing more flowers, making things and growing this change to something all of its own. I imagine flowers, gardens, repurposed, salvaged things, gatherings during the golden hours of the day. Change is exciting.
Thank you for reading and also if you are still interested in following along. I will let you know when I’ve created a platform to follow along.
Until then I built a little flower cart that holds our community garden goodies.
The cart is self serve, a most helpful, friendly neighbor might be helping out every once in while. If you see him tell him hello, his name is Keyshawn.
One side has neighborhood veggies and eggs. The other has flowers for you to enjoy. It’s based on honor system and proceeds go to the flower farm. Veggie and egg proceeds go to Miss Sophia’s garden. A sweet young lady that is no longer here with us. Her family has a beautiful garden that is lit at night with beautiful, colorful, twinkling lights. A light in the darkness for us all.
💐Located in Gilman right off 146. Use the ally and park in the yard.🌸
