When Joy opened the store in 2015, the sole purpose was to send two or three Kenyan street orphans to school using proceeds from the store. Today we celebrate having 25 students in schools across the country of Kenya and are able to give back to our local community and schools as well! We love items that are handmade by artisans, items that have all the details, and items that have a story or missions that give back in addition to what we are already giving. Have you ever noticed our birds that are painted on the side of our building? We incorporated them into our mural with purpose! They are also on our bags, on our tissue sometimes, and on our latest Iddy’s shirts.

Today in Kenya, I received a “God wink.” I saw our bird out in the wild! In the 14 years that I’ve been going back and forth to Kenya, I’ve only seen one other! She is Kenya’s national bird, and she is insanely beautiful. God’s creation at its finest!

The African Roller Bird, also known as the Lilac-Breasted Roller, has 8 different colors that represent the many tribes that make Kenya the diverse and beautiful place that it is. She is the Kenyan symbol that I chose to represent that Iddy’s is more than just a purchase.

As my trip comes to a close, it was such a gift to see this reminder that Iddy’s is ON PURPOSE and FOR A PURPOSE. I can’t wait to tell you more about my visit!
